Line Patterns and Fractured Coatings in Deposited Colloidal Hydrochar on Glass Substrates after Evaporation of Water

Patterns of assembled colloidal particles can form on substrates due to solvent evaporation, and here we studied such phenomena in the drying monodispersed hydrochar dispersions prepared by hydrothermal carbonization glucose purified dialysis. During evaporation water, line patterns or, some cases, mud-like formed. The formation was investigated as a function pH dispersion, substrate shape, particle concentration, concentration sodium dodecylsulfate (SDS). lines comprised dense assemblies particles. width increased with successive water. Sharper formed addition SDS, which ascribed effects solubilization or moderated interactions. At greater concentrations, also observed continuous layer between lines. A mechanism for pattern derived from literature other colloids proposed. Mud-like concentrated samples without SDS were put context cracks coatings.
